BLACK
ONYX
by Jon Ber

BLACK ONYX is a translucent chalcedony, similar to agate
that contains straight bands usually white or brownish.
Most of the Black Onyx used in the creation of jewelry and
beads is stained to enhance its color and eliminate the
appearance of its natural bright bands.

The method that was invented by the Egyptians some 4000
years ago, is still considered a legitimate gem treatment.
Formed by the deposition of silica gas cavities in lava, It
is found worldwide in large quantities thus became popular
in use as a healing and spiritual stone everywhere.
Among the qualities ascribed to the Black Onyx, is its
ability to help concentration, absorb negativity, reveal
inner truth, bring understanding and promote friendship.
A less expensive variety of Onyx, commonly nick named
Mexican Onyx, is in use in the creation of ornaments,
animal figurines, eggs, vases and plates across the
Americas.
